Birth Preparation Workshop

I offer a 3 hour one to one workshop to discuss all the options surrounding birth and labour and to help you make decisions about how you might like your birth to be.

In this workshop we will also cover eventualities outside of your birth 'plan' or 'preferences', so that when labour begins, you have been given information before hand, and you have had chance to discover any pros and cons for yourself.

This workshop is ideal if you would like antenatal doula support during pregnancy, particularly if you are unsure about hiring a doula for the birth itself.

The main focus of the workshop will cover:

  • The birth process, physiology and important role of hormones
  • What to expect and explanation of 'The Roadmap of Labour' (Penny Simkin)
  • Self help methods and discussion of pain management and your options
  • The birthing environment and feeling safe
  • Hospital procedures and great communication with caregivers
  • Induction and augmentation discussion
  • Relaxation techniques
  • The role of the birth partner and what they can do to support
  • Explanations of positioning of baby in pregnancy and techniques you can do to encourage a good position for smoothest birth of your baby
  • Any other specific topics that you may have that are relevant to you and your pregnancy.

My intention is that you will leave the workshop feeling really positive and that you have a good, strong understanding of the birthing process, how you would like the birth of your baby to be and be armed with information that will assist you in labour, should things head in a different direction to your original birth plans.

The Birth Preparation Workshop is £75 for up to 3 hours and includes handouts and a gift of essential oil (your choice of scent).   Further support by email or phone after the workshop is always available should you have any further questions.

It can be held in your own home or at mine and complements any other antenatal courses you may have planned. It can reinforce a few theories you may have been unsure of or undecided on, enhance the support you receive,  and give you the confidence to really make your own decisions.
